Based in Whangārei
Welcome to
THE VILLAGE
HOME BASED EDUCATORS

Together for Tamariki
Based in Whangārei, Northland, we are a small team of qualified, registered and dedicated Early Childhood practitioners with a combined 60+ years working with tamariki and their whanau. We absolutely love and believe in home-based care and education as the best option after ‘home’.
With small group numbers (a maximum of 4 tamariki with a maximum of 2 under the age of two years) your tamaiti will be nurtured while they learn. They will build a deep connection with their Educator and the other in-care tamariki, as will you.

Our philosophy underpins what we do and how we do it.

Our Philosophy
At the heart of our home-based early childhood education philosophy is the belief that children thrive when they are supported by meaningful relationships, immersed in nature, and engaged in purposeful play. These three principles guide every aspect of our approach, shaping the learning environment and the experiences we create for young children.
We are guided by Te Whāriki (2017) and weave this document through our practice, documentation and work with educators, tamariki and whānau.

Valuing Meaningful
Relationships
We believe that strong, supportive relationships are the foundation to a child’s learning and well-being. We also believe that families appreciate the sense of security and wellbeing of knowing that their tamaiti is part of their caregivers family and of a wider network that values the family, their tamaiti and their Educator.
The Village places great value on our Educators as nurturers, Kaiako, connectors – we view our Educators as an extension of home.

Embracing the Wonders of Nature (Te Taiao)
We know how important nature is for a child’s growth. We encourage outdoor exploration and hands-on experiences in the natural world to spark curiosity, critical thinking and a deep respect for our environment. Whether this is in the Educators backyard, visiting with another Educator or further afield during visits to the beautiful spaces that our Northland area offers.

The Power of Purposeful Play
We believe play is a child’s superpower! Play is where learning happens. The Village Educators have the knowledge, skill and support to design rich, open-ended adventures that are tailored to tamariki; empowering them to explore, create and problem-solve—all while having a blast in a comfortable home-like environment.
Why You’ll Love Being a Villager

1.
A Philosophy that
Feels Right:
Our philosophy is in perfect sync with Te Whāriki (2017), the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum. We actively weave these principles into our daily practice, making sure our actions match our values.

2.
Flexibility, Freedom & Whanau:
For families, this means start and finish times to suit your requirements with access to WINZ funding as well as 20Hours ECE for 3–5-year-olds. It means having an authentic relationship with the person caring for your tamaiti, they do become part of your whanau as you do theirs. Your tamaiti will build relationships within the small group of care tamariki as well as The Village wider collective.

3.
Be the architect of your own learning environment:
As an Educator, home-based education offers you the chance to tailor every experience to the unique needs and interests of the children in your care with support from us all at The Village.

4.
Supportive Community:
You’ll be part of a wonderful network of families, educators and The Village clan. While Educators work independently, they are never alone. Educators receive ongoing support, professional development, and regular contact with our friendly Village team.
We truly are
Together for Tamariki

Our Age Range
6 weeks to school start
Infants
Toddlers
Preschool
Some tamariki start school at 5 years, some later. Some move on to home schooling. We can access 20-hours ECE funding until the day before the child turns 6 years so any care provided from their 6th birthday onwards means parents pay all costs.
